Magazines are very popular and usually cover hundreds of subjects.All magazines have a lot in  common and follow a common format.Most magazines have adverts ,adverts will pay a lot of money to magazines to reach their target audience.This is good as it lowers the price of magazines.Magazines also have features. The.The features of a magazine will relate to the main interests of the target audience.Editorials will also be included in the magazine.The editor will introduce the main topics,give an opinion and maybe give a hint of what's in next weeks magazine.Magazines may also feature a problems or letters page.

Layout of a magazine.

The front cover of a magazine is often taken up with a large image.This cover image represents the messages and values of the magazine.Down the side of the cover are details about the content.These will be in headline style.The title/masthead will  be in a distinctive font to make it stand out.It will also incurred the price,the issue number and the publisher logo.If the magazine is really popular or well known then the masthead will be covered by an image.The full content of the magazine is listed on page 2 or 3. Women's magazines usually put their adverts at the front of the magazine and the back page of the magazine is usually a full page advert.

House Style

Everything about a magazine helps set the house style.The style changes depending who the audience is.A small child's magazine will have a different written and usual style from women's magazines.The written tone is really important,some magazines treat the readers like friends.For example the magazine will say "come on lads,give this hot new website ago." Other magazines will use more more factual and impersonal. For example this will say something like "the camera has high resolution graphics and it adjusts to different lightings." Pictures set the tone visually.They do this through mise en scene,mise en scene is the items in the picture or the model in the picture.This could include the models age,their ethnic background and how pretty the model is.This would matter on women's magazines.In a home decorating magazine the brand of bath oil may be the background shot.Design features like the logo and fonts play a big part too.This section puts magazines and comics together but there is a big difference between them.The difference between a comic and a magazine is that a magazine tells you what is going on and new fashions,games etc whereas a comic shows you shortness story's.

The NME masthead uses Red for its font colour with a  white and black outline. The white and black outline make the red stand out.The font is Sans-Serif.Underneath the Masthead there is small black writing in Sans-Serif font.The masthead font is large.

The Billboard masthead is Sans-Serif font. The font colour is black and the font is large. The lowercase letters are filled with colours in spaces that are empty. The letters filled with colours are lowercase b,lowercase o,lowercase a and lowercase d.The colours used for this filling is red,yellow,blue and green. This makes the masthead stand out.The border of the masthead is green on the left half and black on the right half.

The masthead also has small text underneath.

The MOJO masthead is Sans-Serif font. The font colour is black and largeThe masthead is in all capital letters.The font does not have a border.The logo has serif writing across the masthead.The serif text is red and quite small font.

The Kerrang masthead is in sans-serif font.The font colour is black.The masthead is in all capital letters and is large.The masthead does not have a border.The masthead writing is cracked,this suggests that the music the magazine is writing about is very loud.It suggests the volume of the music has cracked the masthead writing.

The rolling stones masthead is serif font.The font colour of the masthead is red.The masthead has a grey outline which gives the masthead a drop shadow effect.The masthead does not have a  border.

 The Q masthead does not have a border.The Q is large,white and in serif font.The Q is on a red background.This makes the Q stand out.The Q has a drop shadow.








The Top of the pops masthead is on two backgrounds,one is blue and one is pink.The top of the pops masthead font is white and medium sized.The "Top" and "Pops" are in capital letters whereas the "of" and "the" are in lowercase.The lowercase words are in a pug.The blue background is in the shape of a film strip suggesting the magazine may also be talking about films or music in films.The writing on the masthead is on the blue background.The Top of the pops masthead doesn't have a border around it.



The VIBE masthead is sans serif font.The masthead writing is in capital letters.The masthead font colour is a metallic silver colour.The masthead font is large.The masthead font is on a black background.This makes the metallic coloured font stand out.The masthead does not have a background.
